How Your Paycheck Works
Understanding your paycheck is one of the first steps toward financial freedom. You need to understand how money flows from your employer to your bank account. This lesson will show you exactly how that process works and what each deduction means.
Completing Form W-4
Form W-4, Employee’s Withholding Certificate, is the form you give your employer to help determine how much Federal income tax should be withheld from each paycheck. Withholding too little could leave you with an unexpected tax bill at the end of the year, while withholding too much means you are unnecessarily reducing your take-home pay throughout the year.
Understanding Your Form W-2, Wage and Tax Statement
Your Form W-2 summarizes what you earned and the taxes withheld from your paycheck during the year. Review it for accuracy, keep it with your tax records, and use it to prepare your annual income tax return.
